One of my favorite trends this summer that made a great transition from runway to street wear is tulle skirts. If you are on a tight budget for your summer wardrobe I would definitely recommend adding this item to your shopping list must-haves! The best thing about a tulle skirt is that there are so many different ways to style it. You can go from biker chic to tea party classic to a casual picnic look and yes I would even take this trend to the office! 🙂 To create these looks there are all different lengths, thicknesses and colors, what more could you ask for in one skirt?
So… like I said “TULLE down for what! ” *Below are just few examples of how you could style this great trend!
Happy tulle skirt shopping my lovely fashionistas! Until next time stay styled right! xoxo FSR
I thought what better to write about than how to dress post pregnancy since this is my current wardrobe as well. I know after you have a child its almost worse than when you were pregnant because you bust out all your old clothes thinking you will fit right back into it and or you are nursing and some tops are just not conducive for that (I know I did lol). Unfortunately, for most it will take some time due to your uterus has to contract back down and well if your breast feeding you can forget most of your tight tops because they wont fit. Of course, you try to put on the pregnancy clothes but now they are baggy and unflattering and really who wants to wear those after, I know I was excited to box those up until next time. So talk about frustrating… maternity clothes are too big and your pre-pregnancy wardrobe is too small, so now your scratching your head questioning what to wear for the in-between time? Well ladies I have the answers below so get ready to become the fashionable new and improved you!
First of all, the best thing you can do is embrace your new and what I like to call improved body. There is something sexy about a woman’s body that has transitioned into motherhood. I know many men will agree with me on this. 🙂 The next thing is to get the correct undergarments so that the clothes fit properly. I can never stress enough how important the undergarments are when it comes to dressing everyday especially now. It can really make or a break an outfit. With that said a few key items you need are as follows:
Belly Bandit: This will be your best friend for the first few months it will not only help your body slim back down permanently, it will give you a slimmer trim immediately and just make you feel more confident. YOu may need to start with a larger size and then work your way down it will just depend on what fits.
Hip Slimmer: For some of you ladies I know you are concerned about your hips that have widened! Well, worry no more they now make hip slimming compression corsets, who ever would have thought!
New bras: I am sure you are a pro by now visiting your favorite lingerie store, given that you probably shopped every few months for your ever growing breasts. There is nothing worse than wearing a bra that is too tight. So get get measured and be proud of your new size. Oh and look for bras with no wire, t-shirt bras are great!
Ok now that you have the undergarments its time to shop in your closet and see what will work and what you will need to shop for…. I also would advise to take anything out of your closet that does not currently fit and put it in a different closet or to the back of yours if you do not have an extra one. This way you wont get frustrated with the clothes that do not fit and it will take less time to dress each morning, you will only be flipping through clothes that look great on you!
Stretchy Fabric: Nothing is better than stretchy fabric when your in between different sizes. Search your closet for stretchy skirts, leggings, dresses and tops. These will be your base to create your new wardrobe around. Stretchy leggings are especially great for those mamas who have had c-sections.
Loose blouses: These are another great top to look for in your closet. Most likely they will still fit with your new chest size and will conceal any extra in your tummy.
Ok now that you have shopped your own closet its time to get a few things to complete your new look. One of my favorites for this summer is the ever classic maxi dresses. Not only are they figure flattering they are light weight for those hot summer days. Another few great stables are open sweaters and blazers. They can be thrown over your stretchy tops and loose blouses.
Last but not least accessories. Who said you can’t accessorize with a newborn. Yes I agree put away your nice necklaces, earrings and handbags away. Save those for a special occasion.
Teething Jewelry: If you haven’t heard the new craze is teething jewelry and the best part about them is they don’t even look like teething jewelry. They have so many options in styles and colors I am sure you will find something you like.
Diaper Bags: Forget carrying a purse and just invest in a nice durable diaper bag, something you can wear for a few years that is versatile. A few of my favorite brands are Juicy, Kate Spade, Ju-Ju-Be, Gucci, Burberry and Marc Jacobs. This would be one of the items you could splurge on since its going to be something you wear daily. Make sure you wear the bag and the bag does not wear you.
FOR MY NURSING MAMAS
Clean out your closet of all tops and dresses that are not conducive for breast feeding that way you don’t get frustrated wanting to wear tops that you currently can not. Either put them in a different closet or in the back of your current closet.
Nursing Bra: These are an essential if you are nursing. And I will tell you that wired nursing bras are the devil. Who needs a wire bra anyways your breasts are most likely bigger than you are use to or maybe finally the size you always wanted and no reason to enhance them anymore. I found that comfortability is the key to motherhood. So look for cotton bras and I am right there with you if you want to feel cute and sexy, those are definitely available in cotton. They even have workout nursing sports bra for those mamas trying to get back in shape! Target, H&M and Macy’s have great selections at very reasonable prices.
Nursing tops: Because comfortability is the key nursing tops are my absolute favorite. You can feel supported without having a million layers on and really easy to nurse when you are running about the town. These can be found at Macys, Target and H&M to name a few.
Button/zip downs: Best tops and really the only tops you can wear while nursing. So dig through your closet for those you currently have and if needed go out and buy a few more. Great places to shop for these are Express, Banana Republic and Macys.
Nursing scarf: So if you are like me you dreaded nursing covers because truly they are way out to date and look like your are getting ready to cook something in the kitchen. Well don’t stress ladies because I found a great alternative they are called nursing scarfs. What I love about them is you can wear them so many different ways and they are very stylish and can be worn all day with your outfit if you want. These can be found at Buy Buy Baby, Babies R Us and Etsy.
So who said you couldn’t be fashionable while nursing or getting your pre-pregnancy body back, NOT I! Ok my fashionista mamas…until next time stay styled right. xoxo FSR
Can you believe spring is quickly approaching! If you live in Southern California you are definitely getting a feel for the heat today… so with it being 83 degrees out I though no better day then to share some of the SPRING TRENDS for 2014.
NUDE: If you were one of the millions watching the Oscars this trend should be no surprise to you! Nude dresses where a main attraction on the red carpet! Before you go out buying your new nude ensemble make sure you don’t fall into the dont’s of nude!
Dont’s: Don’t go for something so revealing that it exposes your butt, boobs and belly button…its ok to leave some to the imagination. 🙂
Do’s: Do find a nude that compliments your skin tone and that shows off those lovely curves.
OXFORD: Hopefully you kept your oxford from last season because it is back again! Try mixing it up with a pencil skirt for the office, or tucked into a strapless dress to give it some flare! There really is no wrong way to wear this button down because it goes with everything.
MODERN FLORALS: Feeling flirty? Wear this trend to work, out on a date or even to the beach! Try pairing with a sassy pair of shoes and cool accessories!
BOHO: Loving everything crafty? Are you one to put on all your accessories and add on one more? If so this is totally the trend for you! Pile on all the embellished stuff and rock it! My favorite place to shop for this trend is Free People they are boho year around!
SHEER: Try a sheer hem line or a sheer back! And yes silver accessories are perfectly acceptable with this look!
PASTELS: Consider these colors your new neutrals for spring! Pair back to back or wear them monotone! The soft pinks and blues are my favorite!
Until next time, stay styled right my lovely fashionistas!! xoxo FSR
In the spirit of Miss America tonight I thought I would share with you my TOP 10 Beauty Tips and Tricks I have learned as being a pageant girl myself! Have you ever wondered how pageant girls get their hair so volumized or how they always look flawless under those burning bright lights? Well lucky for you I am going to give you some insight about the pageant girl magic!
As we all know there are a million products for hair care, facial care, nail care and the list goes on. So the question is what really are the best products and brands to use. Now I could tell you that there is just one brand of makeup that is the best for foundation that gives a flawless look or the best face wash for clear skin but because every ones skin and hair is different that is not the case. However, after trying so many brands myself year after year I can tell you that I have learned some tricks along the way and have found some products that work for many skin and hair types.
AMAZING EYELASHES: If you are like me putting on fake eyelashes is a chore and even though I want long thick eyelashes putting on lashes everyday is just unrealistic! Also, putting on false lashes everyday can actually do damage to your lashes so go ahead and throw out those lashes and glue because I have something way better! You can get the same look as false eyelashes with just two mascaras!
TRICK: First curl your eyelashes then put on a lengthening mascara (you can layer it twice if you would like) and then put a thickening mascara on top (you can also layer this twice if you would like) and waaalaaa you have super thick and long lashes without ever putting on fake lashes that takes half the time! My favorite lengthening mascara is Benefit ” they’re Real” and Dior “Show” which is currently my favorite thickening mascara! (they just came out with a new Dior which is even blacker then the normal black)
FLAWLESS LOOK: Ever wondered how some women’s makeup looks great all day especially those pageant girls who are on a stage for hours under bright hot lights. Or have you ever given someone a huge and realized you just left a makeup stain on their shirt! Well, the key is in the application before and after putting on your makeup.
TRICK: It is really important to put on a primer (this allows for the makeup to go on flawless and some primers even help to reduce the look of large pores) and then to put on a setting spray (this sets the makeup so it stays all day and does not start to slip off your face or get onto anyone else’s clothes!). My favorite primer is by Laura Mercier (it even smells good) and my favorite setting spray is by MAC.
FACE REGIME: So you wonder how so many beauty queens have great skin? Well it doesn’t come just by putting makeup on to cover up any blemishes it really starts with how you treat your skin daily. And you can try a million different face wash products and toners and moisturizers but the true key is to wash your face every night before you go to bed. The worst thing you can do is go to bed with your makeup on this can also increase the wrinkles you will get underneath your eyes.
TRICK: So ladies if there is one thing you do everyday let it be that you WASH YOUR FACE NIGHTLY! And while you think washing your face with a wash cloth or your hands is doing the job let me tell you it is not! I can not tell you how much using a Clarsonic day/night will make such a difference. Yes this product may be a little pricey but trust me it is really worth it (make sure your replace the brush head every 2 months and wash it out after each use). My favorite products right now are Philosophy’s “Just Release Me” makeup remover, Bobbi Brown’s Extra Bright Face Wash, Hydrating Toner and Vitamin Enriched moisturizer (if you are like me and want to keep things simple you can use the moisturizer day and night). Also, it is really important to use a eye cream (not only does this help for makeup to go on better but it helps reduce the existence of wrinkles and help them not form). A few other good face wash brands are Kate Somerville and Philosophy.
CLEAN BRUSHES: Another important trick to keeping your face looking great everyday is washing your brushes weekly. My favorite product is the MAC brush cleaner. I let all my brushes soak in a cup of this wash for about 30 minutes and then rinse them out. Also, if you are like me and are always on the go a great product to travel with is a spray brush cleaner by Bobbi Brown. All you do is lay your brush on a tissue spray the brush and swirl it on the tissue and now its ready to be used!
VOLUMINOUS HAIR: So you ask how do you get that volume in your hair and get it to stay all day. Well, ladies it is all in the product you use when your hair is wet and how you blow dry it!
TRICK: Now I have tried every brand and product you can think of from Big Sexy Hair, Aveda, Bumble & Bumble, Bed Head, Fekkai and many more but there is nothing that compares to Kerastase. Kerastase just came out with a new volumizing product called “Forme Fatale” that I use and of course when I do wash my hair which is once a week (yes I said once a week) I use Kerastase shampoo and leave in 30 minute conditioner. Now depending on your hair you will want to find the right Kerastase products for you (they have it all). Also, because I only wash my hair once a week I use a great dry shampoo by Not Your Mothers.
TRICK: Also, blow drying your hair is definitely an art and will also really help with making your hair voluminous! So get yourself a round brush and a good blowdryer and section your hair to blow it dry from root to end. Trust me this will make a world of difference. Remember, how you dry your hair is how it will go back to when it gets any humidity on it.
SILKY HAIR: Now that you know how to get voluminous hair now lets make sure it is silky smooth! This goes back to the same thing when applying makeup it is all in the application before and after.
When it is wet use a serum that will help moisturize your hair my favorite is by Kerastase called “Elixir Kultime”, I put this all through my hair from roots to ends. Then when it is dry I use Moroccan Oil to make my ends silky (use this maybe every other day)!
GREAT NAILS: Ever look down at your nails and think yuck I really need to get my nails done. Well until you can get to a nail salon a quick trick to making them look great is using cuticle oil. Just keep this in your purse and when your standing in line for coffee or stuck in traffic whip this bad boy out and make your nails look great!
PERFECT LIPS: When I say perfect lips no I am not going to go tell you to get lip injections! 🙂 I am talking about how to get your lipstick to stay on and how to make them look plump without anything abrasive!
TRICK: Moisturize your lips daily, my favorite lip balm to use is by Kiehls. Also, if you are like me and hate when your lipstick smudges or your boyfriend refuses to kiss you because it will get all over him. Try my new favorite lipstain by Stila. To get a more full lip put your lip liner on from the outer corners of your lips and work your way in. You can also put a little bit more right in the middle under neath your bottom lip.
SOFT SKIN: So I could tell you that I use some $500 cream all over my body to keep it smooth and silky but then I would be totally lieing. I have found that this is the one time the higher the price is actually not better in quality. Some may swear by Lamar cream but I swear by Eucerin that my grandmother uses. You find it at any grocery or drug store for $15 bucks!
THICK AND LONG HAIR/NAILS: Well there is a lot you could do but my own really key trick is taking Biotin! I know many believe taking prenatal vitamins are a good way to get your nails and hair to grown nice, long and strong. But let me tell you Biotin is way better! Plus if you are not pregnant you do not want to always be taking prenatal vitamins! 🙂
Ok until next time my fashionistas! Stay styled right! xoxo FSR
Every season more and more men’s inspired clothing and accessories are made for women. One of my favorites this season is LOAFERS! They are similar to a flats functionality but give the outfit more edge and visual interest! They are great for just about any occasion. They can take a skinny jean and t- shirt and give it some flare as well as dressing up a great work suit! You can chose from suede, rhinestones, patent leather, leather and an endless color wheel!
The biggest trend to accessorize with this summer is not belts, rings, necklaces or even watches its sunglasses! Depending on your face shape will depend on what sunglasses you will want to buy. Some people can carry off more styles then others it all just depends on what you like and how bold you would like to be! Many love the Jackie O glasses, which have always been in style. However, right now the sunglass trend is Wayfarers worn by both men and women. So check them out and see if they work for you! My favorite brands are Chanel, Ray Ban and Gucci! 🙂
Take any outfit and make it glamorous by adding a touch of metallic! Metallic can be worn day or night and dressed up or down so have fun with this trend and try a few different looks! Try a metallic skirt, shorts, clutch or even a wedge heel!
